Hi everyone,
We hope you are having a great start to 2015.
Let's get to the point! We suppose that some of you must be wondering why you have not received the controllers yet. There are two reasons why it has been delayed again:
1. We found both LG Hi-macs and Formica cases with a manufacturing defect when we went to pick them up (a few weeks ago). We are talking about a tolerance defect in the holes for the inserts that join the base to the controller body. It is very tedious and delicate process revising those holes, because they need to be modified one by one. However, we hope to receive the modified units soon.
2. During the stress test for Slim and Slim Pro boards, we realized that the power supply caused overheating when it is plugged into the maximum consumption for a while. This overheating affected even the LEDs in that area of the PCB. This forced us to readjust a little bit the case design and add better heat sinks. We had to choose better thermal material to transfer more efficiently the temperature between the chips previously mentioned and the anodized aluminum plate that acts as heat sink.
We are truly sorry for not being able to send you these units yet but, once again, we insist on our conviction of not dispatching the devices until they meet the expectations.
Anyway, to the ones who are waiting for the Bhoreal Basic Kit reward (without case)... congratulations! Your controllers are on the way. Some of you should have already received it! :)
More good news: we had time to greatly improve the firmware and develop some examples, that allow working with each one of the modes, either MIDI, WIFI (UDP, TCP), accelerometer and stand alone. We also have written some examples of server communication that allow us downloading 8x8 pixel images to the device as an example for notification system, or simply synchronization via HTTP with a remote server via WIFI. There is also a prototype app and a PHP script for Ableton Live well advanced.
In addition, some of the team members had the opportunity of introducing the project in events such as ITU World Telecom 2014 in Doha, where we shared Ars Electronica's stand with other artists, or Tenerife Design Week 2015, where we could make a small workshop and demo of Bhoreal Mini.
On the other hand, we're organizing monthly meetings in Hangar (Barcelona) with people who want to live the project closer, you're all invited to participate in it whenever it's good for you. The next meeting will be held on February 17. In these meetings, there will be people who want to develop applications, and we'll communicate about new interesting working directions once the rewards are delivered.
